The Virginia Department of Corrections (VADOC) runs all the correctional facilities and state prisons in Virginia. The agency also manages the records of inmates in the facilities. The records contain all official files with data about all the inmates housed in the jails and prisons. The files have the information you can use to identify inmates and their administration records.  

The administration records include inmates’ status, release date, and location. All Virginia inmate files are public as per the Virginia Freedom of Information Act. So, you can get them upon request as you search for an inmate.  

To receive your inmate’s records, you should send a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the correctional facility they are incarcerated. In this case, you can know the release date if you are an attorney, an immediate family member, or a crime victim.
