Oregon Department of Corrections 

The Oregon DOC oversees the day-to-day operations in the State correctional and detention facilities. It runs a prison system made up of 14 prison centers which include a state prison, correctional institutions, and a work camp. The state prisons house inmates at different custody levels. After identifying and classifying each inmate's programming and security needs, the DOC then houses the inmates in minimum, medium, or maximum facilities. 

On average, the Oregon DOC is responsible for about 14,000 inmates confined at state prison facilities, while 30,000 others are housed in community corrections. There are 36 county jails spread across the state which are home to 6000 offenders while approximately 1700 inmates reside in federal prisons. Several Oregon jails detain short-term inmates and offenders waiting for trial.
