How do you conduct an Inmate Search in North Carolina?

  1. Go to the North Carolina Offender Locator page and begin your search - The site provides a search box. Here, you can type in the inmate's name, date of birth, or the inmate ID. You'll get the inmate's name, gender, age, and ID number.
  2. Conduct a Name-Based Inmate Search – Conducting a North Carolina inmate search using the inmate's name brings many results. It's also tedious. So, you must provide more specific information about the inmate as in the first step. But if you know the exact facility where the inmate is held, you can search by name.
  3. Call the North Carolina Department of Public Safety for Help – You can call the North Carolina DPS on their primary line (919-710-8885). That's only if you have trouble conducting an online search.
  4. Use Third-Party Inmate Search Sites such as InfoTracer –InfoTracer helps you find where an inmate is, their records, and any other helpful information.
  5. Contacting an Inmate Directly – Inmates in North Carolina correctional facilities can make calls. They can also send emails to their loved ones. They do this through TextBehind. It's an app that allows inmates to communicate with their loved ones. TextBehind inspects all outgoing and incoming calls for contraband.
