The Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation of California offers California offender locator services to the public. The information may not always be updated in real-time, especially data on the transfer of inmates between correctional facilities or new inmates. The system may reflect such details a few days after incarceration.

The California Inmate Search Process

  1. Visit the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation website of California
  2. Gain access to inmate information using the inmate's name or CDCR Number. It is much better when you have the CDCR Number, the number is unique, and each inmate has a unique one, which makes the California inmate locator process easier. However, you can always use the inmate's first and last name without the CDCR Number.
  3. The next page will include a list of inmates with similar information you provided; choose the inmate whose data you need.

Obtaining Data on Current or Former Juveniles

Data on California juvenile inmates is collected, updated, and stored by The Division of Juvenile Justice. However, unlike other inmate information, California State Law does not allow juvenile data to be released to the general population.

Whenever Juvenile information has to be obtained, a request must be submitted in writing to the Division of Juvenile Justice. The request must contain the inmate's full name, booking number, and date of birth. In most occasions, the only authorized people to access a juvenile's records are their attorneys, parents or guardians, law enforcement authorities, and the involved youth.

Contents of the California Incarceration Records

The California incarceration records contain personal and official data on individuals serving time in California county jails, prisons, and conservation camps. The inmate data includes their name, age, date of incarceration, criminal history, incarceration facility, and possible release date.
